Terms and Conditions

Version 3.9 - 2026-10-25. EmergencyHousing.CA - Watchdog Console Toolkit - Ontario Housing and Safety.

By using this tool, you agree to these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree, do not use the tool. These terms are written in plain language on purpose, so you can understand what you are agreeing to, without a lawyer, before you rely on a draft.

In addition to the main EmergencyHousing.CA Terms and Privacy Policy

These tool terms are in addition to, and do not replace, the main EmergencyHousing.CA Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy. The main Terms and Conditions, document reference EHC-TOS-2026-10-04, effective October 4, 2026, are at https://www.emergencyhousing.ca/terms-and-conditions/, and they already cover related web applications and tools, including this one. The main Privacy Policy is the policy incorporated by reference in section 12 of those main Terms. By using this tool you agree to both the main site Terms and Privacy Policy and these additional tool terms. If these tool terms conflict with the main site Terms, the main site Terms govern.

1. What this tool is, and what it is not

This tool is general information only. It is not legal advice, and it is not a substitute for a lawyer, paralegal, community legal clinic, shelter, court, or tribunal. It does not create a lawyer-client relationship, a representative relationship, or a duty of care between you and EmergencyHousing.CA, its operators, or its volunteers.

The tool builds letters and form outlines in your browser, from the facts you type. It does not decide your case, predict an outcome, or guarantee that any tribunal, court, office, or landlord will accept, act on, or agree with a draft.

2. Your responsibility before you send or file anything

You are responsible for checking, on the official source on the day you act: the current official form and its version date, the fee or fee waiver rule, the deadline on your own notice or order, the correct recipient and address, and the current office holder. Laws, forms, fees, and deadlines change. A draft built on an earlier date can be out of date.

You are responsible for the facts in your draft. Do not add facts you cannot support, do not copy a case citation you have not verified on CanLII or in a court decision, and do not share safety-sensitive details, such as a shelter location or a new address, in a letter that could reach the person who harmed you, unless a lawyer advised you to file them.

3. Official forms are not re-hosted here, on purpose

Official LTB, HRTO, and court forms are controlled by tribunals and the Crown, and they change. This tool does not re-host them verbatim, and it does not claim a draft pack is an official form. The Official Forms panel links to the live official sites, so you download the current form fresh on filing day and transfer your draft into it, field by field. Filing a saved copy from another year can lead to rejection, as the HRTO did with older Form 1 versions after June 15, 2025.

4. No server save, and no guarantee of privacy on a shared device

This tool sends nothing to a server, stores nothing on a server, creates no account, and keeps no log of your letter. Your draft lives only in your browser tab until you copy, download, or print it. That promise does not cover a shared device, a shared account, browser history, or a device someone else can access. Use Quick Exit or Leave No Trace, close the tab, and clear browser history if someone else may use the device. Quick Exit does not clear browser history by itself.

5. Use at your own risk, and waiver

This tool is provided on an as-is basis, without warranties of any kind, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, completeness, or availability. You use it at your own risk. You waive any claim against EmergencyHousing.CA, its operators, volunteers, and contributors arising from your use of the tool, from a draft you send or file, from a missed deadline, from a rejected form, or from a decision by a tribunal, court, office, or landlord, to the fullest extent allowed by Ontario law.

6. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless EmergencyHousing.CA, its operators, volunteers, and contributors from any claim, loss, cost, or expense arising from your use of the tool, from facts you put in a draft, from a filing you make, or from a breach of these terms by you.

7. Liability limit

To the fullest extent allowed by Ontario law, the total liability of EmergencyHousing.CA, its operators, volunteers, and contributors for any claim arising from this tool, in aggregate, is limited to $1.00 CAD. This limit applies even if a remedy fails of its essential purpose. Nothing in this section limits liability where Ontario law does not allow a limit.

8. No unlawful use, and no misrepresentation

Do not use this tool to harass, threaten, mislead a tribunal or court, file a false statement, or impersonate another person. Do not present a draft pack as an official form, a court order, or a lawyer's letter. Do not remove the general information notice from a draft you send.

9. Ontario law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario, Canada, without regard to conflict of laws rules. You agree that the courts of Ontario have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from these terms or from your use of this tool, and you submit to that jurisdiction.

10. Changes to these terms and to the tool

EmergencyHousing.CA may update these terms and the tool at any time, without notice, by posting a new version in this folder. The version in the folder on the day you use the tool is the version that applies to that use. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in force.

11. If you need help

If you are in immediate danger, call 911. For crisis support, call or text 988, or call 211 for Ontario services. For legal help, contact Legal Aid Ontario at 1-800-668-8258, a community legal clinic, the Human Rights Legal Support Centre at 1-866-625-5179, a Family Court Support Worker, or duty counsel. Those bodies are independent of this tool, and this tool does not send them your information.
