Legal information only — not legal advice, not a lawyer. This tool drafts documents from your answers for a housing-justice Charter claim in Ontario. A lawyer or community legal clinic should review everything before you file. Court forms, fees, and procedures change — verify against the official source before filing.
Your answers are never saved. They live only in this page's memory. Use Export to download them as a file on your device, Import to load that file back later, and Print for paper copies. Closing this tab erases everything.

QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Is this legal advice?

No. LegalScape gives you legal information — documents drafted from your answers using public law. It is not a lawyer, and nothing here is counsel-approved. Have a lawyer or community legal clinic review everything before you file.

Is anything I type saved or sent anywhere?

No. Your answers live only in this page's memory. There are no accounts, cookies, analytics, or network requests. Use Export to download your answers as a file on your device, Import to load that file back later. Closing the tab erases everything.

Do I need a lawyer?

Strongly recommended. A lawyer or community legal clinic should settle and sign every filing document before it goes to court. If you cannot afford one, Legal Aid Ontario can connect you with a free community legal clinic.

A removal is happening right now. What do I do?

Use Express mode at the top of the page — five quick questions generate the emergency trio: Know-Your-Rights card, demand-for-compliance letter, and injunction motion. Print the rights card first. Then call a community legal clinic immediately.

How much does it cost to file in court?

As of the last check: $243 for a Notice of Application and $339 for a motion on notice (O. Reg. 293/92). If you cannot afford the fees, Ontario lets you request a fee waiver: submit the ministry's Fee Waiver Request form to the court office (in person or via Justice Services Online). If granted you receive a certificate to show staff — it covers that case only and never fees already paid. The filing checklist and the Fee Waiver Request document walk you through it.

Can the court act urgently — even without telling the City first?

Yes. If removal is imminent, the injunction motion can ask for an urgent hearing (ask the courthouse about the urgent motions judge — each region's practice direction governs). In exceptional cases it can be brought without notice under Rule 40.02, and even before the proceeding is started (Rule 37.17) — but the court then demands full and frank disclosure of every material fact, including facts against you. Answer the scheduling questions honestly and the motion will frame it.

Which city should I choose?

The city where the events happened — it sets the by-law, courthouse, and local figures in your documents. If your city is not listed, choose "Another Ontario city" and type it in.

What is the Book of Authorities?

A printable, tabbed index of the key cases behind your claim — each with its citation, holding, and why it matters to you. It is a customized summary, not the full judgments: verify every citation on CanLII before filing, especially cases marked VERIFY.

What does [VERIFY] mean in my documents?

That figure, fee, or citation has not yet been confirmed against an official source. Do not rely on it until you check it — the checklist tells you where to look.

Which experience level should I pick?

Whichever describes you — New to this, Done this before, or Professional. The questions, the law, and the documents are identical at every level; only the amount of guidance changes.

Can I use this on my phone?

Yes. The page works on phones, tablets, and computers, and once loaded it needs no internet connection. Print from your phone, or export your answers and finish on a computer.

The court says to use its official form. What do I do?

Transfer the generated content onto the court's official form (the form numbers — 14E, 37A, 4F, 4D — are printed on each document). Courts only accept their own forms; the generated layout is a draft to copy from, and counsel should settle it first.

Who made LegalScape?
